THE KING FIRST

*THE KING FIRST*

Some days ago, my son challenged me: "Why do you always serve daddy's food first?" I simply said, "He is the king of the house, his food gets dished first".

"You ought to serve me first..." He argued, I shook my head and said "No, daddy is the head of the house, he is the king and the king must be served first..." he didn't agree but he kept quiet.

I served some snacks yesterday evening shortly before dinner and my son requested for his, I told him to take it to daddy first before everyone gets served. He wanted his own first, I said "No, the king gets served first."

I gave dad two of the snacks and we all had one each, my son quickly blurted, "Why two? Why would you serve dad two and give me one?" I said because he is the king and the king is above us. He must be doubly served.

Tonight while dishing dinner, he requested his to be served first, I said "no, the king must be served first" I let him know that daddy is the head of the house and his interest, wishes and desires comes first. His attention, affection and authority comes first. My son is just 4 years old but he is learning to see and respect daddy as the head, we are all under him. He is the head of the home and final authority. We just must give him that first place, respect and honour.

It is wrong to place our children's interests above our husbands. My son often cries because he wants to talk at the same time daddy is talking to me. I tell him to keep quiet till I'm through giving the king attention. He can then talk.

Children are so adorable. They stir the love and affection of a mother. We love them so much we do not want to see them cry. We love to give them almost everything they want but we shouldn't allow them to occupy the space, attention and time meant for daddy. We should learn to distinguish the two. The king must always come first. We are under our husbands' protection and leadership. Let's give them the respect and honour they deserve by placing them first after God.

There will be other dates na.  Ask about her family, about her education, her hobbies, her fears.. But easy with the questions, before the dates starts to resemble an interview abi audition.  Do not be in a hurry to ask her questions that are way too personal and invasive. Let her feel close and safe with you first, let her get into the groove.
